Counseling for anxiety, grief and change in Gainesville
I am Maren Ostrowe, a licensed mental health counselor. I see adults in Gainesville on weekday evenings, and by video across Florida.

What we can work on
Adults 18 and older, in the Gainesville office or by video anywhere in Florida.

Therapy for anxiety
For worry that runs the day: racing thoughts at night, dread before work, avoiding things that used to be easy.

Grief and loss counseling
After a death, a divorce, a diagnosis in the family, or a loss other people do not see as one.

Counseling for life transitions
Graduate school, a new job, a move, a breakup, an empty house: the stretch between one chapter and the next.

Perfectionism and burnout
For high standards that stopped helping: the work is never done, and rest feels like failing.

Video sessions
Weekly counseling by video for adults anywhere in Florida, from a private room or a parked car.

Counseling for graduate students
Evening sessions for graduate students from any school, planned around lab and teaching hours.

Counseling for caregivers
For adults caring for a parent or partner who is still here but changing.

Meet Maren
I have counseled adults since 2012, first at a university counseling center and in private practice since 2016. Most clients come with anxiety, grief, or a change that will not settle.

Questions people ask before starting

Do you take insurance?
I am out of network. I can give you a superbill after each session so you can ask your plan for out-of-network reimbursement. The first session is $160 and later sessions are $140. Fees, insurance and the first session
What happens on the first phone call?
It takes about 15 minutes and costs nothing. You tell me a little about what brings you in, I tell you how I work and when I have openings, and you decide whether to book.
Can we meet by video?
Yes, as long as you are physically in Florida during the session. Video sessions run in your web browser.
What if I need help between sessions?
Leave a message and I will call you back within one business day. I do not offer crisis services. If you are in crisis or thinking about suicide, call or text 988 or chat with the 988 Lifeline. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
How long does counseling take?
There is no set number of sessions. Some people come for a few months about one concern, others for longer. Every few sessions we check together whether the work still fits.
What stays private?
In the first session I explain what stays private and the limits Florida law sets, such as a serious and immediate risk to someone's safety or suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult.
